The Government Communication Service has issued a statement confirming Ethiopia\u2019s readiness to host two landmark events, the 39th African Union Summit and the historic Italy\u2013Africa Summit, scheduled from February 6\u20138\/2018 in Addis Ababa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These dual gatherings highlight Ethiopia\u2019s enduring role in PanAfricanism and its growing influence in global strategic partnerships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a media briefing today, State Minister of Government Communication Service, Mr. Tesfahun Gobezay, emphasized that the AU Summit will be held under the theme \u201cEnsuring Sustainable Water Supply and Sanitation to Achieve Agenda 2063.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This reflects Africa\u2019s longterm vision for sustainable development. Ethiopia will showcase its achievements, including expanding forest cover through the Green Legacy Initiative, advancing renewable energy projects such as the GERD Grand, preventing singleuse plastics, and promoting clean urban environments. These initiatives demonstrate Ethiopia\u2019s leadership in green growth and environmental stewardship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Italy\u2013Africa Summit, held for the first time outside Rome, will review the Mattie Plan and strengthen cooperation in energy, agriculture, education, health, water, and infrastructure. Ethiopia\u2019s selection as host underscores its strategic role in connecting Africa with Europe and shaping global dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than 17,000 delegates, including heads of state, prime ministers, and foreign ministers, are expected, alongside 800 media professionals. Addis Ababa has mobilized 35 federal institutions, trained volunteers, streamlined visa and customs systems, and upgraded hospitality and security services to ensure smooth proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond diplomacy, Ethiopia will offer visiting leaders opportunities to tour development projects and cultural sites, reinforcing its image as a nation of reform, resilience, and hospitality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government urges all citizens to unite and contribute to the success of this crucial continental summit, recognizing its diplomatic and economic benefits, while remaining vigilant against possible disruptions in the days preceding the event to maximize nat<\/a>ional interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ethiopia\u2019s preparations highlight its role as a model of PanAfrican unity and sustainable development, strengthening its voice on the continental and global stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
