Central to this achievement is the dismantling of exclusionary narratives that divided ‘center and periphery’ for centuries. To replace this, a new national identity has emerged, one that ensures equal access to power and resources for all citizens and regions.

The Government also underscored symbolic and huge projects such as the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum, the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, and tourism initiatives in ‘Dine for Sheger and Generation’ as milestones that reinforce shared pride and collective history. These efforts are helping to heal past divisions and foster a spirit of brotherhood and common prosperity.

Institutional reforms have also been emphasized. Independent leadership of National Election Board of Ethiopia and Human Rights Commission, de-politicization of defense and security forces, and judicial independence are cited as examples of radical changes designed to ensure accountability to the people and the constitution.

These reforms have strengthened Ethiopia’s sovereignty, expanded political participation, and created relative internal peace. The government believes these achievements lay the groundwork for prosperity, with growing acceptance of reform efforts and increased participation by competing political parties serving as guarantees of democratic progress.

The government has a firm commitment to continue building a sovereign and prosperous Ethiopia, ensuring that the democratic path remains strong for generations to come.

March 21, 2018 Government Communication Service has announced significant progress in Ethiopia’s democratic transition, highlighting reforms that aim to strengthen national unity and institutional independence.
