This chapter presents a historic opportunity to resolve long-standing structural and political differences through the holistic participation of its people, and to build a shared national consensus on a civilized platform of discussion.

By shifting away from a political culture that has long been entangled in internal strife and grievances, a vision that places inclusivity and national consensus as the primary foundations for sovereignty and prosperity is actively being implemented today.

At present, national dialogue is not a matter of choice for Ethiopia, but a crucial moment required to build a strong, sovereign, and stable nation. In countries like Ethiopia, which possess large diversity, diverse cultures, and varied political views, imposing the perspective of only one side cannot bring about a lasting solution. Therefore, the necessity of the national dialogue is more prominent than ever before.

The eight major dialogue agendas announced by the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission reflect the voices, hopes, and future visions of Ethiopians gathered from all parts of the country and various segments of society. The success of turning these agendas into practical action is not the responsibility of a single party alone; rather, it requires the positive and active participation of all Ethiopians. Political parties, civic society organizations, religious institutions, youth, women, scholars, and other institutions have an irreplaceable role to play in the success of this historic process.

This process offers a great historic opportunity to deliver a country of peace, mutual trust, and cooperation to the next generation by strengthening democratic state-building in Ethiopia. We must use this opportunity wisely to collectively determine the destiny of our nation. Therefore, We must stand firm destructive ideas disrupting the national dialogue, prioritize listening, and positively contribute to building a strong state together.

June 25, 2018 Ethiopia is currently at a new, inclusive, and strategic chapter of national dialogue in its history.
