“April 27 Symbolizes Ethiopia’s Eternal Legacy of Unity and Victory”
Government Communication Service
April 27, 2018
April 27 is not merely a date preserved in archives, but it is a living symbol of Ethiopia’s rebirth. It marks the victory of our patriotic fathers and mothers, whose courage carved the path for freedom. Eightyfive years ago, they fulfilled their historic duty, defending the nation with blood and sacrifice. Today, that legacy rests in every Ethiopian citizen, not with bullets, but with knowledge, digital technology, and relentless work.
Our ancestors protected borders with guns; we confront poverty with innovation. They fell for freedom; we stand for prosperity. This generational trust connects past and present, without their defense, our nation would not exist, without our building unity; their sacrifice cannot deliver a meaningful life for citizens. It is our moral debt to hand over to the next generation a country built with honor and civilization.
This is why Ethiopians extended their belts and grasp their tools, to break free from poverty, to plant 48 billion trees in green legacy, to transform old cities once marked by deprivation in corridor development, and to repair broken walls. It is why we invest in renewable energy, why we build Africa’s largest aviation hub, and why we pursue renaissance with determination. Each effort is a brick laid in the foundation of national greatness.
On this historic day, every citizen is called to be a patriot of their time. Whether in farming, technology, education, or industry, the sweat of today is the tribute we pay to the blood of yesterday. The unity we display, the projects we complete, and the developments we advance are our strongest response to the fathers who gave us freedom.
Glory to the fathers who protected our country. Honour to the children who are building it with diligence and vision.
