National Dialogue Commission Presents Key Progress Report to PM Abiy Ahmed

The National Dialogue Commission today presented its implementation report in the presence of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, senior federal and regional officials, and members of the Standing Committee of the House of Peoples’ Representatives.

The Commission reported on the major activities it has carried out so far, the challenges it has faced, and the solutions it has implemented. It also outlined the roles expected from various stakeholders in order to ensure the national dialogue process proceeds as planned.

Among its key achievements to date are:

– The identification of inclusive and participatory dialogue participants.

– The successful collection and identification of agendas across 1,234 woredas, covering 93% of the country.

The Commission also noted that, despite conducting 22 rounds of consultations with key stakeholders, it was unable to hold discussions in districts of the Tigray Region due to unfavorable conditions. To address this, it organized agenda collection and identification in Addis Ababa by bringing together stakeholders from across the region, as well as members of the Tigray community residing in different parts of the country.

For the next phase of the national dialogue process, the Commission has outlined the following tasks:

– Strengthening the participation of political actors

– Formulating national dialogue agendas

– Conducting the national dialogue conference

– Facilitating the implementation of nationally agreed outcomes and recommendations
