Media and Communication Play a Vital Role in Advancing National Development and Strengthening Democracy – Legesse Tulu (PhD)

Dr. Legesse Tulu, Minister of Government Communication Service, emphasized the crucial role of media and communication in Ethiopia’s development and democracy-building achievements during the 2017 fiscal year. Speaking at a performance review and planning session in Adama, he highlighted the sector’s significant progress compared to the previous year, marking a period of impactful communication efforts.
The Minister pointed out the successful completion of citizen-centered development projects, the expansion of the Green Legacy initiative, and advancements in food sovereignty and human resource development. He credited the media and communication sector for effectively supporting and amplifying these national milestones.
Looking ahead, he stressed the importance of strengthening media and communication across all sectors to further enhance the country’s growth trajectory. He called on leadership and staff to sustain coordinated and strategic efforts.
State Minister Kebede Desisa echoed these sentiments, noting that substantial progress had been made in improving sector management and increasing public access to government information. However, he acknowledged ongoing challenges and emphasized the need to modernize sector operations and better integrate technology.
Executive Director Endalkachew Tsegaye presented the institution’s budget performance and engaged staff in discussions to ensure resource alignment with strategic objectives.
Overall, the performance review reaffirmed media and communication as foundational elements of Ethiopia’s reform agenda, with a renewed commitment to innovation and increased public engagement.
