The Ethiopian government has stepped up its efforts to reduce unemployment by implementing a comprehensive strategy that focuses on agricultural development and remote work opportunities for youth.

In October 2018, new initiatives were launched to create jobs both within the country and internationally. A key part of this plan involves expanding agricultural programs aimed at involving young people in sustainable farming and agribusiness. Through investments in irrigation infrastructure, modern farming techniques, and cooperative models, the government is generating thousands of jobs in rural areas. These efforts help to reduce urban migration and strengthen food security across Ethiopia.

At the same time, the government is enhancing digital skills among young Ethiopians through programs like Ethiopian Coders, a national coding course. This initiative provides training that enables youth to find remote employment with international companies, allowing them to work from their communities.

Together, these initiatives are part of a broader vision to modernize Ethiopia’s economy and foster innovation. By prioritizing agriculture and technology, Ethiopia aims to position itself as a regional hub for innovative employment opportunities in East Africa
