Ethiopia Shines on the Global Stage at COP30 Summit in Belem, Brazil

Ethiopia has made a significant mark at the opening of the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belem, Brazil, emphasizing its commitment to tackling climate change. Building on the momentum from the recent Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2), Ethiopia is actively participating in global climate negotiations and showcasing its flagship Green Legacy Initiative.

The Ethiopian delegation, led by Minister of Planning and Development Fitsum Assefa, is engaging in high-level negotiations, side events, and bilateral meetings, including activities at the Ethiopia Pavilion. The country has also officially submitted its bid to host COP32, a move supported by the Africa Group of Negotiators (AGN), signaling its leadership ambitions within the climate arena.

Ethiopia aims to elevate the outcomes of ACS2 within the COP30 discussions, ensuring that African nations and climate-vulnerable countries’ priorities are prominently represented. The summit, scheduled to run from November 10 to 21, 2025, convenes global leaders, experts, and stakeholders to accelerate climate solutions and foster a sustainable, resilient future.
