Established in 2014 E.C., Ethiopian Investment Holdings has brought together 41 state-owned development enterprises under one umbrella and is implementing efforts to identify national assets and manage previously fragmented assets in an organized manner. Prior to the establishment of the institution, state-owned enterprises were facing challenges related to finance, auditing, capital, debt burden, and corporate governance.
Currently, the development enterprises under Ethiopian Investment Holdings have been equipped with modern ownership and management systems, as well as internationally recognized corporate governance frameworks. In addition, they have been required to follow modern auditing standards. As a result, these enterprises have transitioned from losses to profitability. Over the past four years, their total revenue has increased from 704 billion birr to 6.1 trillion birr. Today, state-owned development enterprises are participating in 36 major projects. Overall, the total asset value of the enterprises under this umbrella has reached 8.2 trillion birr. Through this, efforts are underway to further strengthen the contribution of state-owned enterprises to the economy and to enable them to become competitive and preferred players not only in Ethiopia but also in the African market.
