Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Promotes Agricultural Progress in Kelam Wollega

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed visited Hawa Gelan Woreda in Kelam Wollega Zone to observe the banana cluster farm developed under the Bounty of the Basket (Lemat Tirufat) initiative.

The site, established through cooperative farming and traditional irrigation methods, has become a model of how local resources can be harnessed for sustainable growth. Farmers working collectively have transformed the area into a productive hub, supported by improved road infrastructure that startrs access to markets.

During the visit, the Prime Minister also observed the Qeto Irrigation Infrastructure Development Project, which is benefiting communities in Sadi Chanka and Hawa Gelan Woreda.

The project, designed to utilize the natural landscape effectively, is ensuring reliable water supply for farming activities. The irrigated land is being cultivated, and residents are experiencing direct improvements in their livelihoods.

The initiative supports diverse crops including wheat, rice, banana, papaya, and orange, underscoring the region’s strong agricultural potential. Enhanced road networks are further strengthening market connections and improving daily life.

Prime Minister Abiy emphasized that these developments demonstrate the impact of aligning infrastructure and irrigation projects with community needs, offering a clear path toward sustainable rural transformation.
