Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) today officially inaugurated the Assela Wind Farm project in Arsi Zone of Oromia Region, marking a major milestone in Ethiopia’s renewable energy development.

The facility, with a capacity of 100 megawatts, is expected to significantly boost the country’s clean energy supply and reduce reliance on non-renewable sources.

Constructed at an estimated cost of 145 million euros, the project is designed to pay for itself within two years and generate profit thereafter. The Prime Minister emphasized that future generations will benefit from the project without inheriting debt, underscoring its long-term sustainability.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Abiy expressed deep gratitude to the Danish Government for its exemplary support in realizing the project. He called on other partner nations to follow Denmark’s examplary by working with Ethiopia, contributing to its prosperity, and sharing in its success.

The Prime Minister noted its leadership in wheat and barley production, which has been vital in meeting Ethiopia’s food needs. He added that the Arsi Zone is now emerging as an energy hub, with both wind and geothermal power plants, and praised local residents for their role in advancing national progress.
