Ethiopia Achieves Historic Landmarks Signaling Strong National Economic Renewal
The Government Communication Service has announced that the concluding year of 2018 E.C. marked historic turning point signaling Ethiopia’s national economic renewal and stability. The Service issued a statement officially revealing the context, designations, and core themes under which this year’s Pagumedays will be celebrated.
During a media briefing, State Minister Kebede Desisa stated that the milestones achieved over the concluding year provide a powerful foundation to celebrate the upcoming Pagume days under the theme of ‘Ethiopian Renewal’.
On the political and social sphere, the State Minister highlighted enhanced diplomatic capacity, strengthened internal unity, and the successful completion of the National Dialogue, which solidified multinational foundations and resolved long-standing differences.
Furthermore, a free and democratic election saw the participation of over 54 million citizens. Good governance demands were actively addressed through the expansion of over 100 ‘Mesob One-Center Services’, while widespread charitable initiatives and infrastructure projects fulfilled key social aspirations.
In economic aspect, Ethiopia successfully stabilized its macro-economy growth, despite persistent global crises. Inflation was brought under control, the national debt burden was significantly reduced, and state revenue collection surpassed an unprecedented 1.5 trillion birr.
The export sector thrived, yielding revenues over 10.2 billion dollars, complemented by historic growth in industrial productivity and foreign exchange earnings. A single international investment forum generated over 13.2 billion US dollars in Memorandums of Understanding, with most projects transitioning fastly to the licensing phase. Supported by steady input supplies, agricultural productivity also surged across both the main and irrigation seasons.
Progress was equally visible in mega-infrastructure development. Concrete advancements were achieved in renewable energy supply and the expansion of heavy industries. The launch of a new fertilizer factory and the commencement of the Bishoftu International Airport construction were cited as prime examples of strategic projects driving the nation forward.
The State Minister announced that the days will be celebrated in successive order with various events under the following designations, with preparations nearing completion:
