“The government achieves goal of food self-sufficiency by increasing domestic -production of essential crops”

     – State Minister, Government Communication Service Mr. Kebede Desisa,

In a statement made on November 13, 2017 E.C, Mr. Kebede Desisa, the State Minister of Government Communication Services for FDRE assured that the government is making significant strides toward achieving food self-sufficiency through the attainment of agricultural production. This initiative is designed not only to enhance national food security but also to elevate the livelihoods of farmers across the country.

During a media tour of the Lemu Bilbilo Woreda in Arsi zone organized by the Government Communication Services, the state minister highlighted various agricultural developments, including a dairy producer association and cluster farming of barley. These initiatives underscore the government’s commitment to fostering sustainable agricultural practices and improving the socio-economic conditions of farmers.

The State Minister emphasized that the government’s strategic focus on increasing production and productivity is critical to realizing the national goal of food self-sufficiency. The successful cultivation of wheat and barley within the Oromia regional state exemplifies the positive outcomes of this policy.

The State Minister further elaborated that the Ethiopian government has made considerable progress by producing items traditionally imported, such as beer gin for breweries, thus preserving valuable foreign exchange.

With Ethiopia’s very vast farm land and abundant human resources, the government continues to prioritize the development of local substitutes to curtail reliance on imports and to enhance the agricultural supply chain.

The minister’s insights reflect a comprehensive approach to agriculture that balances food production with socio-economic advancement, ultimately fostering a self-sufficient and resilient country.
