UNFSS+4 Action Day Showcases Ethiopia’s Nutrition and Agrifood Innovation

The UN Food Systems Summit +4 Stocktaking Moment (UNFSS+4) kicked off today with a high-impact Action Day, offering global delegates immersive exposure to Ethiopia’s transformative food systems agenda.
Participants visited key agrifood innovation hubs, including cluster-based avocado and banana production sites in East Showa of Oromia region, which showcased adaptable horticultural models suited toward nutrition and export growth.
At Mojo Poultry and Dairy Chains, they observed local value addition and packaging, where integrated livestock practices demonstrated improvements in food safety, climate-smart productivity, and dietary diversity.
A strategic focus emerged on Ethiopia’s avocado sector, which packed high-level interest for its role in advancing climate resilience, household income, and nutrition outcomes. Experts and stakeholders explored pathways to bolster Agro-Processing, regional trade capacity, and value chain sustainability.
The Action Day underscored Ethiopia’s reform-driven leadership and multi-sectoral collaboration.
Through field engagement and evidence-based dialogue, Ethiopia illustrated how localized innovations can scale into global solutions, reshaping conversations on food security, equity, and health.
