A National Call to Green Ethiopia
July 22, 2017
Let us respond to the historic call to make Ethiopia thrive through roots, leaves, and collective effort.
Guided by the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative has transformed the nation into a symbol of environmental renewal and unity. Over the past seven years, this movement has not only increased forest cover but also enhanced Ethiopia’s reputation in global sustainability efforts.
More than 40 billion seedlings have already been planted, with an additional 700 million planned for this summer. This initiative is more than just planting trees; it is about sowing hope, fostering ownership, and building resilience. People from all regions have participated by nurturing saplings and taking pride in their growth. Together, we recognize that green plants are vital to our survival and sovereignty.
On July 24, 2017 (E.C.), Ethiopia will once again mobilize to plant 700 million trees in a single day, showcasing unity, purpose, and ambition. Every Ethiopian is called to leave a living mark—rebuilding our landscape and renewing our spirit.
The Government Communication Service encourages all citizens: plant, protect, and prosper. This is more than a campaign; it’s a movement to bring hope to Ethiopia—naturally, sustainably, and together.
We Rise Through Planting!
