Ethiopia’s ambitious Koysha Hydropower Project has reached 71% completion, marking a significant milestone in the country’s push for energy independence and industrial transformation.

The 1,800 MW dam, one of the flagship projects under Ethiopia’s national reform agenda, is poised to generate an estimated 6,460 GWh annually upon completion.

Located in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’ Region, the Koysha Dam stands 201 meters tall and stretches 1,012 meters in length, making it one of the largest infrastructure undertakings in the country’s history.

The project is part of Ethiopia’s broader strategy to harness its abundant renewable resources and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

The dam will play a critical role in powering industrial growth, expanding access to electricity, and reinforcing Ethiopia’s position as a regional energy hub.

As construction advances, the Koysha Dam continues to symbolize Ethiopia’s rising momentum toward sustainable development and energy sovereignty.
