Ethiopia Accelerates Economic Transformation with Major Infrastructure Achievements
August 20, 2025
Addis Ababa, August 20, 2025 — Ethiopia is entering a new phase of its macroeconomic development, characterized by significant progress across critical sectors, according to Legesse Tulu (PhD), Minister of Government Communication Service.
In a recent message, the Minister highlighted notable advancements in productivity, foreign trade, government capacity for implementation, and inflation management. Major infrastructure projects have reached completion and are expected to be inaugurated soon, including the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), with preparations underway for additional initiatives. Urban renewal efforts are also gaining momentum, transforming cities into symbols of national pride.
To support low-income populations, the government has increased subsidies on essential commodities such as fertilizer, medicine, fuel, and oil. Additionally, a second phase of salary increases for public servants has been announced, aimed at enhancing purchasing power, boosting motivation, and improving public service delivery.
Dr. Legesse emphasized that while these salary adjustments align with current fiscal realities and development objectives, they are not a panacea for longstanding economic challenges. He called for sustained collective efforts to improve productivity, combat illegal practices, stabilize markets, and curb inflation.
“Ethiopia’s prosperity requires unity, discipline, and resilience,” the Minister stated. He urged all sectors of society to contribute to the country’s progress, asserting that peace must be maintained and destructive agendas countered. “Together, we will realize Ethiopia’s full potential,” he concluded.
