Minister Legesse Tulu Calls on Media to Promote African Integration at Regional Conference

During the 15th East African Communication Association Conference, Minister of Government Communication Service, Legesse Tulu (PhD), emphasized the crucial role of media and communication in advancing Africa’s unity and integration.

Held at the Adwa Memorial Hall, the conference gathered scholars, industry experts, and policymakers to discuss the theme, “Media and Communication for Africa’s Integration,” aiming to encourage regional cooperation.

The Minister highlighted Ethiopia’s dedication to Agenda 2063 and the African Continental Free Trade Area, pointing out infrastructure connectivity, cultural exchange, and regional collaboration as essential pillars for progress.

Dr. Legesse commended Addis Ababa University for organizing the event and reiterated Ethiopia’s vision of establishing a continental media hub to amplify African voices and combat disinformation.

He stated, “Media are not merely channels of information; they are bridges of understanding and tools of empowerment,” urging responsible use of digital platforms in light of challenges such as hate speech and fake news.

Furthermore, the Minister called on the Association to lead efforts in research and innovation to address threats to social cohesion and regional integration. He concluded with optimism that the conference would foster collaboration and produce practical solutions for a united and prosperous Africa.
