Ethiopia on the Path to National Renewal
Pagume 4, 2017
Ethiopia is celebrating Pagume 4, the Day of Renewal, under the theme “Sustainable Development for National Renewal,” showcasing a series of transformative achievements across key sectors.
The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), built entirely through domestic efforts, now supplies renewable energy to industries and exports electricity to neighboring countries. This milestone positions Ethiopia as a leader in equitable water resource utilization in East Africa.
Tourism is experiencing its own renaissance. New destinations such as Gorgora, Wenchi, Chebera Chorchora, and Negat Lake are attracting visitors with revitalized towns and expanded hospitality services, reflecting Ethiopia’s rich cultural and ecological heritage.
Agriculture has transitioned from subsistence farming to a market-oriented system, supported by irrigation and year-round cultivation. Initiatives like the Bounty of Basket and Green Legacy are modernizing food production, turning activities like beekeeping, poultry, and horticulture into viable urban and rural enterprises.
The mining sector is growing in a legal and sustainable manner. Gold, coal, and iron ore are now making significant contributions to the economy, replacing illegal trade with structured development.
The Government Communication Service urges continued innovation, human resource development, and strategic implementation to sustain this historic momentum. Moving forward, Ethiopia is confidently on the path to national renewal.
