Megech Irrigation Project Achieves Major Milestones in Gondar

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced significant advancements in the Megech Irrigation Development Project during a review conducted in Gondar City today.
Covering an area of 870 hectares, the initiative is designed to irrigate approximately 17,000 hectares of arable land, thereby promising a transformative impact on the region’s agricultural productivity.
The successful diversion of the Megech River has been completed, marking a critical milestone in the project’s timeline. Remaining construction activities are reportedly progressing according to schedule. Upon the completion of the Megech Dam, the project is anticipated to substantially enhance agricultural output across the region, thereby supporting food security and improving rural livelihoods.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed underscored the strategic importance of the project in strengthening Ethiopia’s irrigation capacity and fostering economic growth through sustainable land utilization.
The Megech project is a key component of the broader national efforts to modernize infrastructure and optimize water resource management to ensure long-term agricultural resilience.
