Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Delivers Christmas Message of Hope and Renewal
December 28, 2018
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) extended Christmas greetings to Ethiopians and Christians worldwide, emphasizing the spiritual and national significance of the birth of Jesus Christ.
In his message, the Prime Minister described Christmas as a moment when, “The promised from God has come true, the light of change has begun to shine, and the era of transition is approaching.” It reflected on Ethiopia’s journey through trials and tribulations, noting that while challenges remain, the nation stands at a turning point of redemption and renewal.
The Prime Minister highlighted the theological essence of Christmas, stating that the birth of Christ reconciled yesterday, tomorrow and forever, sanctifying history and giving meaning to humanity’s future. Without Christ the works of prophets, priests, and civilizations would remain only history. “It is Christ who redeemed in the past, sanctified today, and gave hope for tomorrow,” said.
Turning to Ethiopia’s legacy, the Prime Minister recalled the nation’s ancient civilizations, empires, and cultural heritage. He stressed that history alone cannot sustain progress, declaring: “It is today that redeems yesterday.
Yesterday’s greatness is honored only through today’s diligence and urged citizens to confront poverty and backwardness with resilience, framing the current generation as one that understands the magnitude of Ethiopia’s challenges and is prepared to build a future of prosperity.
The Prime Minister underscored that “No power in the world can stop an idea whose time has come,” asserting that Ethiopia’s prosperity and greatness are unstoppable ideas. The Premier called on Ethiopians to work tirelessly, reminding them that tomorrow’s redemption depends on today’s effort.
The Prime Minister concluded with blessings for Ethiopia, wishing that the nation be honored and glorified by the efforts of her children and lives forever under divine guidance.
