To enable the telecommunications sector to make its full contribution to national economic growth, it is crucial to follow a sound institutional regulatory framework. Accordingly, licensing, monitoring, and regulating service providers operating in the sector is essential.
Since its establishment, the Ethiopian Communications Authority has been working not only to ensure the sector’s own growth, but also to enable it to serve as a driver for the development of other sectors. Current reforms in the sector have made it possible to introduce new operators, significantly expand network coverage, and greatly increase the number of mobile subscribers. Beyond the results it achieves on its own, the sector’s role as an enabler for other sectors makes the work being carried out in telecommunications particularly important. In particular, the services the telecommunications sector provides in enhancing financial inclusion, efficiency, and access to modern services are highly significant.
