Ethiopia and Mozambique Seal Landmark Cooperation Agreements
April 19, 2018
Ethiopia and Mozambique have opened in a new chapter of partnership, marked by the signing of multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and President Daniel Francisco Chapo.
The agreements span Military Training, Urbanization and Housing, Health, Civil Aviation, Tourism, and Digital Transformation, with a strong emphasis on Digital ID and Digital Public Infrastructure. Far beyond symbolic gestures, these accords are designed as practical frameworks for shared prosperity and continental integration.
Ethiopia, with its rapidly expanding economy, pledged to share expertise in infrastructure, agriculture, and industrialization, while also learning from Mozambique’s unique experiences.
Mozambique, in turn, expressed keen interest in adopting Ethiopia’s best practices in education, trade, and technology. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to Pan-Africanism, emphasizing unity and solidarity as guiding principles.
Strategically, the partnership carries weight. Ethiopia’s influence in the Horn of Africa and Mozambique’s position along the Indian Ocean create a powerful friendship for regional cooperation. The timing is equally significant, aligning with the African Union’s push for deeper intra-continental collaboration and sustainable development.
This historic agreement signals a forward-looking partnership that blends economic ambition, political solidarity, and sectoral collaboration to strengthen Africa’s collective voice on the global stage.
