Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed launched the new phase of Ethiopia’s globally endorsed Green Legacy Initiative, mobilizing the nation for another historic environmental restoration campaign.

The Prime Minister delivered national message, “The Green Legacy season is upon us. With more than eight billion seedlings raised and ready for planting, let us plant hope for a greener tomorrow. This major reforestation effort builds directly upon Ethiopia’s monumental ecological achievements.

Over the last four consecutive years, the country has successfully planted more than 48 billion seedlings, setting an unprecedented global benchmark for climate action, land restoration, and agricultural resilience.

The ambitious initiative serves as the cornerstone of Ethiopia’s strategy to combat devastating desertification, mitigate severe climate change impacts, and secure future food systems. Government sectors are rallying millions of citizens, climate institutional stakeholders and regional administrations to join the upcoming nationwide planting drives.

By scaling up its green infrastructure, Ethiopia continues to demonstrate bold leadership in continental environmental sustainability, transforming degraded landscapes into thriving ecosystems for generations to come.
