Government Prepares Over 1.2 Million Hectares for Coffee Farming
September 9, 2018
During the 2018 fiscal year, the government is allocating more than 1.2 million hectares of land for coffee cultivation as part of a strategic effort to stimulate sector growth. This initiative aims to foster greater involvement from the private sector in expanding coffee farming nationwide.
A primary focus of the plan is to promote modern agricultural practices, with mechanization playing a vital role in boosting efficiency and productivity. To attract and support investors, the government is also establishing a comprehensive system of incentives and support services designed to create a conducive environment for private sector participation.
These measures are intended to encourage investors to adopt advanced farming techniques and invest in large-scale coffee operations. Such efforts are expected to accelerate industry modernization, improve crop yields, and enhance Ethiopia’s standing in the global coffee market, ultimately increasing national output and foreign exchange earnings.
