Social Development Achievements for Ethiopia’s Nation Building Forum

A consultation forum organized under the theme “Social Development for Nation Building”, where major achievements recorded in the social sector over recent years were presented, was held in the presence of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

During the forum, key successes achieved in various social sectors over the past years were highlighted. Over the past eight years of reform, Ethiopia has focused on addressing gaps observed in fundamental and social sectors, bringing about broad structural transformation in both social and economic spheres.

In the education sector, by implementing a new curriculum, improving the distribution of textbooks, and modernizing higher education and national examination systems, efforts have been made to enhance the quality and credibility of education.

Similarly, in the health sector, a policy that had been in place for 30 years was revised. Alongside prevention, greater emphasis has been placed on curative services, and notable results have been achieved in digital health, domestic health financing, and health diplomacy.

Efforts to build economic and social capacity have also been effective. In the labor and skills sector, by modernizing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and expanding business incubation centers, employment opportunities have been created for close to 20 million citizens both domestically and abroad.

This inclusive progress has also been reflected in the women and social affairs sector. Beyond enhancing the economic and political participation of 26.8 million women and 4.3 million youth, it has enabled better protection for vulnerable citizens and those affected by disasters.

In the culture and sports sector, significant contributions have been made in utilizing the country’s heritage for national unity and diplomatic success. Among these achievements are the recognition of 83 public festivals, the construction of 36 cultural centers, and the development of over 100,000 new sports infrastructures, including the Adey Abeba Stadium.

Overall, the changes recorded across these sectors demonstrate the government’s commitment to institution building, digital transformation, and human capital development.
