The 37th summit showed us our diplomatic height and experience in organizing international conferences.

Ethiopia has spent six months waiting for the first weeks of February to welcome its African brothers to their second home with typical Ethiopian hospitality and developed diplomatic experience.

It has been months since the Ministry of Foreign Affairs set up a national committee with more than 35 federal and Addis Ababa city administration offices to host the 44th executive meeting and the 37th African Summit.

All these preparations and efforts are aimed at making Ethiopia’s diplomatic level higher than it has been so that our African brothers can come back to their second country safely and happily, as Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) said at the opening of the conference.

According to the Minister of State for Government Communication Services, Peaceful Compensation, in a statement given to the media a few minutes before the end of the conference, Ethiopia has achieved the 37th African Union Summit with four criteria.

The success of the conference was made visible by the pre-arrangement of the conference and the bright and international reception of the leaders. Another indication of the success of the conference is that Ethiopia has been able to promote the 37th African Union Summit, which is about education, which is the theme of this year’s conference.

For its third achievement as a country, Ethiopia prepared its own agenda for the first time and was attended by many attendees and leaders of the countries at the Adwa Victory Commemoration on the 9th and 10th of October, where the President of the Federation, Sahlework Zewde, was the guest of honor.

“Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa” is a side panel discussion.

Africa Can Be Food Self-Reliant: A Climate-Smart Solution and Collective Action for Food System Transformation. The fact that it was possible to hold a panel discussion was a way to show our Africans how to shape and lead the agenda as a country.

In this discussion, it was pointed out that the African Union needs a comprehensive strategy to ensure food security. A lack of integrated investment, innovation, and technology is still a challenge for Africa to become self-sufficient in food.

It was presented in the forum that Ethiopia has achieved tangible achievements in the past five years in green footprint, wheat cultivation, and lematturfat.

Dr. Girma Amente, the Minister of Agriculture of Ethiopia, who shared his experience with the African brothers in this side discussion, said that resistance to climate change is fundamental to ensuring food security.

Chadian Transitional Prime Minister Success Massara, who was present at the panel discussion, said that it is not appropriate for officials in charge of Africa’s agricultural sector to continue importing food from abroad.

Another achievement was the fact that he was able to hold many bilateral discussions to achieve Ethiopia’s national interests. Diplomatic experts say that when a leader of a country travels to different countries to consult with the leaders of many countries, it takes a lot of time and money. At such a large conference, however, it is a great diplomatic achievement to have the leaders of many countries in one place at the same time.

On the sidelines of the 37th African Union Summit, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) discussed relations between the two countries with the leaders of 15 different African countries, including Brazilian President Lewis Inassie Lula da Silva.

Among the leaders met by the Prime Minister are the President of the Republic of Monitaria and the current Chairman of the African Union, Mohamed Awolde Ghazwahani; the President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan; the leader of the Democratic Congo, Felix Tshesekedi; and the Director of the African Office of the United Nations Development Program, Ahuna Ezeakonwa.

It is not difficult to imagine how much time the Prime Minister’s diplomatic work would take if it were to be communicated through the normal diplomatic process. However, the African Union Summit is also important for the success of diplomatic relations, so it will achieve bilateral discussions. As a country, it showed us our diplomatic stature and experience in organizing international conferences.
