Ethiopia Marks 65 Years of Special Operations Command

Ethiopia celebrated the 65th anniversary of its Special Operations Command, highlighting decades of resilience and modernization within the national defense forces. 

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed praised the unit’s historic role, describing Ethiopia as a nation built by generations of heroes who have safeguarded its sovereignty.

Established more than six decades ago, the Special Operations Command has carried out missions that brought pride to the country, often under challenging circumstances. 

The Prime Minister emphasized that recent defense reforms have transformed the command into a modern force, reorganized with advanced structure, manpower, and equipment.

The unit now integrates airborne, commando, and counter-terrorism divisions, positioning it to respond effectively under any conditions.

During the anniversary celebrations, the command showcased its upgraded capabilities and tactical readiness. Demonstrations included an integrated water-borne exercise and coordinated controllers by airborne and commando forces, underscoring the high level of proficiency achieved through reform efforts. 

The event served as a public affirmation of Ethiopia’s commitment to strengthening its defense institutions and ensuring preparedness for future challenges.

The anniversary not only honored past achievements but also signaled Ethiopia’s determination to maintain a reliable and modern military force.
