Ethiopia Strengthens Diplomatic Ties with Liberia and Portugal

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has underscored Ethiopia’s growing role in fostering African and global partnerships through a series of high-level diplomatic engagements.

Today, the premier held a productive bilateral meeting with Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, reaffirming the longstanding relationship between the two nations.

The leaders emphasized cooperation in peacekeeping and other mutually beneficial sectors, highlighting Ethiopia’s commitment to sharing its experiences in rapid transformation while learning from Liberia’s perspectives.

Their discussions presided  in the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs), which mark a concrete step toward advancing shared priorities and building sustainable, African-led solutions for continental progress.

In a separate engagement, Prime Minister Abiy met Portugal’s Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, Paulo Rangel, in Addis Ababa. The talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in key areas, including trade, investment, and cultural exchange.

Ethiopia and Portugal share a history of diplomatic relations dating back decades, with Portugal often supporting Ethiopia’s development initiatives and regional stability efforts.

The renewed dialogue signals a commitment to deepening ties between Africa and Europe, positioning Ethiopia as a bridge for constructive partnerships across continents.
