In the context of global economic developments, Ethiopia continues to demonstrate distinctive resilience and momentum. Ethiopia’s overall economic performance has remained strong, recording a 9.2% annual GDP growth in the 2017 Ethiopian fiscal year, driven by robust expansion in agriculture (7.3%), industry (13%), and services (7.5%). The nation’s GDP composition reflects this diversification, with agriculture contributing 31.3%, industry 30.2%, and services 39.6%. Looking ahead, the economy is projected to grow by 10.2% in E.C 2018, supported by ongoing reforms, government-led initiatives, and new investments. Major projects such as the completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), alongside new mega investments in fertilizer production and gas development, are expected to further stimulate economic growth. Sectoral forecasts remain robust and strong: agriculture is projected to expand by 7.8%, industry by 13.2%, driven by new manufacturing projects and improved input supply, while mining is expected to exceed 2018 performance targets. Additionally, the services sector is forecasted to grow by 9.3%, fueled by increasing trade activity, transport, tourism inflows, and digital economy expansion. Commodity exports stood at 2.5 billion USD, surpassing target as well as last year’s similar quarter performance. The finance sector is playing its key role in financing development and investment as demonstrated by a 113% higher loan disbursement in the past quarter as compared to similar time last year. The digital finance continues to gain traction, with transactions valued at 6.5 trillion birr in just three months. The overall performance indicates a better outlook on all fronts underscoring Ethiopia’s accelerating momentum toward structural transformation, sustainable and inclusive economic growth. #PMOEthiopia
